WATERTOWN, N.Y. – More than 40 years after a northern New York boy became the first victim of serial killer Arthur Shawcross, a marker has finally been placed at the child's gravesite.

Jack Blake was 10 years old when he disappeared in 1972. His body was found in a wooded area in Watertown four months later and buried in an unmarked grave in the North Watertown Cemetery.

About 40 relatives and friends gathered at the cemetery Tuesday for the dedication of a new gravestone for Jack.

A former classmate and her husband bought the marker after noticing the boy's grave didn't have one.

Shawcross served 15 years in prison for killing Jack and another child. He later killed 11 women in the Rochester area in the 1980s. He died in prison in 2008.
